We often write about tragic circumstances on our Northern Virginia personal injury blog, but a recent story out of Woodbridge will sadden even the most cynical among us. A woman who loved to ride her motorcycle was in a serious accident about six months ago. She endured enough pain during the aftermath of the accident that she literally didn't leave her house in those six months since then. Recently, though, the mother of two started feeling better and she decided to venture out to walk to a nearby convenience store for a newspaper and a cup of coffee -- the day before her 41st wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately, her return to the outside world ended abruptly when she was struck by a car and killed. The fatal accident occurred when the woman was in a marked crosswalk; she was crossing with the light at the time she was hit. The woman's husband described her as a very generous person who had overcome cancer.
The 24-year-old driver of the car was charged with reckless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian. While the woman's family would likely welcome convictions on these counts, it might not be enough for them. When a family has to endure the loss of a loved one, it is not uncommon for them to seek assistance from an experienced personal injury or wrongful death attorney. An experienced attorney can help a family to seek compensation for the loss of their loved one by helping to coordinate legal action involving the liable parties.
