Defense Against All Types Of Assault And Battery Charges

Assault and battery covers a wide range of offenses, from street fights to domestic abuse and aggravated assault. Having an assault conviction on your criminal record may not seem like a serious problem, but it can follow you for years.

Even a misdemeanor assault conviction can make it difficult to get certain jobs, housing, professional licenses, financial aid and acceptance to college. In addition, it can affect your security clearance.

If you have been charged with assault and battery, it is best to discuss your case with a criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible. At Whitestone Young, PC, we defend adults and juveniles charged with all types of assault and battery offenses, including assault on federal property. You Need A Strong Defense

Assault and battery can be charged as a misdemeanor or felony, depending on the details of the offense. In Virginia, a Class 1 misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail and fines up to $2,500.

We represent people facing misdemeanor and felony charges such as:

  • Assault and battery
  • Malicious wounding and unlawful wounding
  • Brandishing a firearm
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Assault on a police officer, law enforcement officer or firefighter
  • Domestic assault

Assault on a police or law enforcement officer is a special class of assault, which the legislature has made a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Additionally, a conviction for assault on a police officer, which can include resisting an arrest, requires a mandatory minimum term of incarceration of six months. Convictions for domestic assault and battery could result in deportation for people who are not U.S. citizens.

As your attorneys, we will investigate the case and present the best defense. If you acted in self-defense or if your constitutional rights were violated, we may be able to get the charges reduced or dismissed.
