Jonathan Woodward focuses his practice on criminal defense and personal injury litigation. Many of Jonathan’s clients have never faced criminal charges or needed the help of a lawyer in the past. He understands the stress legal problems can cause, and provides clients with information and knowledgeable guidance to help relieve their anxiety, as well as protect their freedom and futures.
As a criminal defense attorney, Jonathan represents individuals charged with serious misdemeanor and felony offenses, including abduction, drug possession and distribution, DWI/DUI, assault and battery, sex offense, fraud, and embezzlement. Drawing on his skills as a criminal defense attorney, Jonathan also defends students facing administrative or academic sanctions for misconduct such as drug possession on campus as well as individuals and organizations facing regulatory violations and professional sanctions.
As a personal injury litigator, Jonathan fights hard to obtain compensation for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists struck by negligent drivers. Jonathan is a competitive cyclist himself and active member of the National Capital Velo Club. As a bicyclist, he knows that cyclists suffer a staggeringly high rate of injury and death as a result of collisions with negligent, distracted, or otherwise reckless drivers. He has seen firsthand vehicle collisions that not only injure a cyclist’s health and ability to ride but also their ability to work and support their families. Jonathan takes cases involving pedestrians and cyclists seriously and strives to recover significant compensation for his clients.
Prior to joining Whitestone P.C., Jonathan was with the United States Department of Justice, working on complex antitrust cases including the XM-Sirius merger investigation. After the USDOJ, Jonathan gained prosecutorial experience as third-year law student at the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County.
2016-Jonathan Woodward secured the dismissal of a Possession of Schedule I or II Drug after his client was found with liquid THC (cannabis solution for use in E-Cigarette) in car during a DWI arrest in Alexandria County
2016-Jonathan Woodward negotiated the reduction of a Grand Larceny charge to Trespassing, and for that charge to be dismissed after 6 months, in Prince William County for a client with sensitive immigration status.
2015-Jonathan Woodward secured the amendment of a Petit Larceny charge to Trespassing for client with sensitive immigration status in Fairfax County.
2014-Jonathan Woodward secured the dismissal of two counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor in Prince William County after an expectant mother ran into a drug store to pick up medicine for two children left sleeping and secured in a locked car. He later successfully challenged and obtained a reversal of Child Protective Services’ determination that the mother and father were responsible for child neglect.
