Big rig driver faces criminal charges after crash kills woman

When a big rig is involved in an accident, the accident often yields injuries due to the size and weight of the truck. One big rig driver is now facing very serious criminal accusations after reportedly causing an accident in Virginia. The driver of the car with which his vehicle collided lost her life.

In the morning hours, a 44-year-old big rig driver was driving his poultry truck through our state. The man apparently lost control of his truck, and the semi truck swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic. When the driver attempted to correct his error, he over-corrected. As he swerved back onto the highway, his big rig overturned, and it landed on the victim’s SUV.

The 54-year-old woman driving the SUV was pinned underneath the big rig, and she lost her life at the scene of the crash. It is unclear at this time, but drugs may have been a factor in the crash. The man was purportedly in possession of a controlled substance at the time of the crash, and he was driving even after reportedly being a habitual offender. He faces charges relating to both accusations, and he has also been charged with felony involuntary manslaughter.

If the Virginia authorities determine that he was actually driving under the influence of drugs, the man could face even harsher charges. The deceased victim’s estate could also elect to file a wrongful death suit against the big rig driver and the company for whom he was working at the time of the fatal crash. If successful, the family could be compensated for the damages sustained as a result of the tragedy.
