1 dead following car accident in Virginia

One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a serious multi-car crash in Suffolk on Dec. 12, according to local sources. Virginia authorities had to close down Route 460 following the car accident. It is currently unclear what caused the crash, which is still under investigation by local authorities. No charges have yet been filed.

Details about the crash are still being confirmed by Virginia law enforcement and emergency services, but it has been confirmed that a total of three vehicles were involved in the accident. It is not clear which of the drivers, if any, initiated the crash, but only the driver of the third vehicle escaped unscathed. Two other people were seriously injured in the initial collision.

One of them, a 38-year-old woman from Windsor, later died of her injuries after being taken to a local hospital for treatment. The second victim is still in critical condition as of this writing. Police have been tight-lipped about any possible cause for the accident, including reckless driving and intoxication. The investigation is ongoing at this time, and it will continue until a satisfactory explanation for the crash has been determined.

If it is determined in the course of the Virginia police investigation that one of the three drivers can be held accountable for the events that led up to the car accident, he or she may face criminal charges associated with the crash. Even if no formal charges are filed, as would be the case if the driver responsible perished in the accident, the families of any deceased parties and the injured parties still alive would be entitled to file civil suits against the driver or the driver's estate. Personal injury and wrongful death suits would require substantial evidence of wrongdoing on the part of the driver to result in fiscal remuneration for the victims.
