Family files wrongful death suit against Virginia nursing home
The family of a man who lost his life is filing a wrongful death suit against a nursing home and a number of its employees. The family of the 92-year-old feels as if the defendants were negligent and did not provide their loved one with adequate supervision. The Virginia family is seeking $4.5 million in damages in the wrongful death suit.
On Feb. 18, 2013, the man was admitted to the nursing home for rehabilitation purposes after having pneumonia. Approximately one month later, the man fell while he was in the bathroom, and he broke his hip. He had to have surgery on his right hip, and afterward he was readmitted to the nursing home facility for rehabilitation. However, his heath “deteriorated rapidly,” and on March 29, 2013, the man passed away.
The family claims that their loved one was not adequately supervised. If he had been, they claim, then his fall could have been prevented. The family feels that the nursing home should have had better precautions to lower the risk of their patients falling and hurting themselves.
The Virginia family is seeking $4.5 million in damages from the nursing home facility, as well as the eight staff members listed as defendants in the wrongful death suit. If other Virginia residents have lost a loved one due to the negligence of another, then they may be able to take similar legal action. Filing a wrongful death suit can be a complex as well as emotionally taxing experience. Luckily, attorneys are available to provide invaluable advice and guidance through this process.
